Lin-Manuel Miranda is bringing Dave Malloy’s musical Octet to the big screen, and he’s just announced his star-studded cast.

Miranda and his company, 5000 Broadway Productions, announced the eight main cast members who will help bring Octet to life, many of whom have cut their teeth on both the stage and screen.

Cast members for ‘Octet’ announced

Jonathan Groff, Paul-Jordan Jansen, Gaten Matarazzo, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Amanda Seyfried, Phillipa Soo, Tramell Tillman and Rachel Zegler have been cast in the Miranda-directed pic.

What is ‘Octet’ about?

Like the musical, the film adaptation of Octet follows eight people who live their lives on the internet, but meet in person to live in the real world for a change. According to the official description:

Eight internet-obsessed people meet in a church basement and lock their phones in a box. This groundbreaking musical from Dave Malloy (Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812) follows an octet of people struggling with digital dependency, charting their compulsions using only the analog vibrancy of their own voices. With witty lyrics, shimmering harmonies, and virtuosic solos, Octet sings of connection, redemption, hope—and how we can be truly present with each other.

Julie Oh, who serves as the film and television head of 5000 Broadway Productions, will produce with 5000 Broadway Productions President Luis A. Miranda, Jr. and Best Kept Secret Productions’ John Skidmore.

Executive producers include Malloy, who is also adapting his musical for film, Sander Jacobs, Caren Jacobs, TodayTix Group, Jeffrey Seller, Teresa Tsai and John Gore for Broadway.com.
