The life of a celebrity is full of glitz and glamor until something comes up that could ruin your entire career. Such is the case in Apple TV’s new film Outcome, starring Keanu Reeves as a star who faces a damaging video from his past.

Blavity/Shadow and Act Managing Editor Trey Mangum spoke with Reeves and co-stars Cameron Diaz and Matt Bomer about the film and how being a celebrity impacts their real-life relationships with their friends and family.

Diaz said that she hadn’t thought about how her career impacted her family and friends until doing this film.

“I’ve been in this position for a long time,” she said, adding that she’s seen the ups and downs of careers, plus how people’s friends react, in real time.

“You [hope] the people around you, if they’re being honest with you, which you hope that they are, that they’ll let you know,” she said. “I’ve had lots of experiences that way.”

Bomer said he’s been “lucky” with his friendships, saying, “A lot of my friendships are really long-term friendships from before I was working as an actor and from the time I was in the public eye, for the most part.”

“There’s always been a system of checks and balances for me, thankfully,” he said.

Reeves also reiterated how the film is all about friendships, even including how the film was created.

“I mean, the script was born through a friendship,” he said, referencing Jonah Hill directing the script he wrote with Ezra Woods. “The focus of the film is so much on friendship and support and forgiveness and personal growth, individually and collectively, through friendships. He [Hill] brought such an energy and passion to it, this work and his vision that was really supportive and a joy to be a part of.”
