Prince Harry is facing a defamation lawsuit from an African charity he co-founded. Sentebale, the organization suing Prince Harry, along with former trustee Mark Dyer, announced the lawsuit in a lengthy statement via its website, according to Variety.
What did Sentebale say in its lawsuit against Prince Harry?
Sentebale said the lawsuit has been filed in the High Court of England and Wales after Prince Harry and Dyer engaged in a media campaign that “had significant viral impact and triggered an onslaught of cyber-bullying directed at the charity and its leadership.”
“The charity seeks the court’s intervention, protection and restitution following a coordinated adverse media campaign conducted since 25 March 2025 that has caused operational disruption and reputational harm to the charity, its leadership, and its strategic partners,” the organization stated, per Variety.
Sentebale is also urging the justice system and its supporters to understand why legal action is necessary and to continue to stand with the organization as they “focus on the work ahead.”
Prince Harry co-founded Sentebale in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana
In 2006, Harry co-founded Sentebale with the goal of creating an organization that tackles various issues, including health, wealth inequality and climate challenges throughout Lesotho and Botswana. As ABC 13 News reported, the charity’s name, Sentebale, means “forget me not” in the Lesotho language.
In 2025, however, Harry and co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho stepped down in 2025, along with several trustees. At the time, they said their relationship with the board chair, Sophie Chandauka, “broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation.” Later on, Chandauka accused Harry of bullying her and leading an effort to force her out.
According to ABC 13 News, Chandauka spoke to Sky News, saying Harry’s Netflix programs interfered with a fundraiser for Sentebale. She also said Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, caused friction for the organization.
