Regé-Jean Page is stepping into the world of The Great Gatsby.

Deadline reports that Page is starring in a West End stage adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s popular book set during the height of the 1920s excess. It’s presumed Page will star as the iconic character Jay Gatsby, who becomes part of New England’s new money social scene to impress Daisy, a woman he’s loved since his youth.

Page said to Deadline that he “couldn’t be more excited” to be a part of the new production, calling the adaptation by Joel Horwood and Maria Aberg “eclectic, glamorous, deeply romantic, utterly heartbreaking, and its profound insight into the past couldn’t be more relevant to our current tumultuous 2020s.”

He added that he was “struck by how it unlocked the nuances of the book, in ways I’d just never thought possible on stage.” Page said the new adaptation has “sharp purpose and reveals the characters with a new vitality that feels both fresh and dangerous.”

Michael Longhurst, who, according to Deadline, has directed Page in his first professional role in The History Boys, will direct. Casting will continue after a West End house decides to host the adaptation.

What else is on Page’s extensive to-do list?

Page’s star has continued to be on the rise after leaving Bridgerton in 2020. Page, who originally began his American television career with 2016’s retelling of Roots, has since starred in films like Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Sylvie’s Love, The Gray Man, and TV shows including For The People and Mortal Engines.

He will be seen next in the upcoming romantic comedy, You, Me & Tuscany opposite Halle Bailey. He is also set to star in and produce a film adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo and star in upcoming Netflix erotic thriller series Hancock Park.
